Capacity Building

Community Capacity

What is Community Capacity Building?

Community Capacity Building is any activity, support or training that helps give members of a community the knowledge, skills and experience to affect change and improve their local area.

At Engage Renfrewshire we are charged with delivering training and support that enables Community Capacity Building – that is, we help you achieve the change that you’d like to see in your community.

This might mean forming groups to pick up litter, or helping to run a hall for local people – if the community as a whole benefits then it’s the result of Community Capacity Building.

Our Community Capacity team has the expertise and experience in all areas of Community Capacity Building and can help you in a number of ways.

Our focus is helping you achieve what you want to. We won't dictate to you, instead we'll offer advice and support on all aspects of your group: from how to obtain funding to event planning.

Below is a list of the information and training sessions that we offer.

We lead a range of informal sessions with community and voluntary group members to increase their awareness in areas such as:

  • Developing community capacity
  • How to establish new groups
  • Constitutions, community planning structures and LAC’s
  • Funding
  • Book-Keeping
  • Sustainability

We organise training courses to increase the capacity of community and voluntary group members. The training helps groups gain the skills to operate more effectively, helping to strengthen their delivery and in turn their communities. Learning programmes include:

  • Governance/Committee Skills
  • Board of Directors
  • Food and Hygiene
  • First Aid
  • Vulnerable Child and Adult Policies
